LSC Announces Appointment of Inspector General

WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) announced today the appointment of Richard "Kirt" West as Inspector General. Mr. West, a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law (J.D., 1984) and Lawrence University (B.A., 1969), comes to LSC from the United States Postal Service where he has served in various capacities and was most recently Executive Director of the Inspector General Management Institute. Before joining the Postal Service Kirt was Assistant Counsel to the Inspector General of the Central Intelligence Agency, Assistant Counsel to the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Labor and a staff attorney in the office of the Solicitor of Labor.
Prior to attending law school Kirt worked as a public aid case worker in Chicago from 1969 to 1978 which placed him in contact with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago in the representation of indigent clients. He is a member of the Illinois bar.
Mr. West began work as LSC's Inspector General on Sept. 1, 2004.
