Loan Repayment Assistance Program
The 2017 Loan Cycle closed with the completion of Saturday, September 30, 2017. Newly selected and renewal participants in the 2017 LRAP cycle are required to return their completed Executive Director Certification for fall 2017 (April 01, 2017 through September 30, 2017) for the second check disbursement by Wednesday, November 01, 2017.
The necessary forms and this year's LRAP Program Description are provided for your reference. This year's forms will have electronically fillable fields. When completing these forms, please use Adobe Acrobat Reader to access the fillable fields and save them as a .pdf document.

Attorneys who are selected to participate in our loan repayment assistance program receive loans of up to $5,600 per year for up to three years if they remain eligible and if funding is available.
Participating attorneys must use our loan repayment assistance program to pay qualifying law school loans and accrued interest, and must meet all terms and conditions of our loan repayment assistance program.
The debt to LSC will be forgiven at the end of each loan term so long as the participating attorney remains employed in good standing with our grantee throughout the term. Participating attorneys are expected to remain with our grantee for three years.
The Herbert S. Garten Loan Repayment Assistance Program, established in 2005, is funded by a Congressional appropriation.
Attorneys who wish to participate must be employed by one of our grantees and meet certain requirements, such as having a total outstanding debt of at least $75,000.
Participating attorneys must use our loan repayment assistance program to pay qualifying law school loans and accrued interest and must meet all terms and conditions of our loan repayment assistance program.
Using a lottery system, we make loans of up to $5,600 to approximately 70 eligible attorneys each year. The actual number of loans made each year depends on funding levels.

Reporting, Compliance Requirements & Applicable Law
This section does not apply to loan repayment assistance loans to individuals.
In 2016, we awarded 80 legal aid attorneys a total of $1 million to assist them with student loan debt.
