Board Members
LSC is headed by an 11-member Board of Directors appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. By law, the Board is bipartisan: no more than six members may be of the same political party. The Board meets quarterly or more often.

LSC is an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974 to provide financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. LSC currently provides funding to 130 independent non-profit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories.
