Legal Services Corporation Honors Tennessee Attorneys for Pro Bono Service
NASHVILLE, TN – The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Board of Directors will present Pro Bono Service Awards on Monday, January 22, to Tennessee attorneys and a law firm in recognition of their extraordinary commitment to equal justice.
The LSC Pro Bono Service Award Reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the office of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, 150 3rd Avenue S. The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the LSC Board of Directors’ first quarterly meeting of the year.
George T. “Buck” Lewis II, Chair of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, and a shareholder at Baker Donelson, will make opening remarks. He will be joined by LSC Board Chair John G. Levi and Jason M. Pannu, President-Elect of the Tennessee Bar Association and a shareholder at Lewis Thomason.
Recipients of LSC’s Pro Bono Service Awards were nominated by LSC’s four grantees in Tennessee: Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Memphis Area Legal Services, and West Tennessee Legal Services. The recipients are:
- Karen Boyd, an attorney who has taken on more than 100 cases in the areas of divorce and estate planning for Legal Aid of East Tennessee clients.
- Ben Sissman, an attorney who volunteers weekly with Memphis Area Legal Services, providing legal assistance to 85 clients in 2017 alone.
- Angela Sniderv, an attorney and former West Tennessee Legal Services board member who has worked to support the organization for the last 15 years.
- Waller Lansden Dortch and Davis LLP, a firm that has provided important pro bono support to Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands since 1985.
