On October 19, we will hear special remarks from the Honorable Fred Upton, U.S. Representative for Michigan's 6th congressional district; White House Senior Advisor Gene B. Sperling, who oversees implementation of the American Rescue Plan relief package; the Honorable Bridget Mary McCormack, Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court and Chair of the Access and Fairness Committee of the Conference of Chief Justices; and newly elected American Bar Association President, Reginald M. Turner, Jr.

The program also consists of two important panel discussions. One conversation will explore housing instability connected to manufactured homes, featuring:

  • Meredith Bruch, Staff Attorney, Yakima, Northwest Justice Project;
  • Cesiah Guadarrama Trejo, Co-Associate State Director, 9to5 Colorado;
  • Nick Smithberg, Executive Director, Iowa Legal  Aid;
  • Esther Sullivan, Assistant Professor of Sociology, University of Colorado Denver; and
  • Moderator: Frank X. Neuner Jr.,Board Member, Legal Services Corporation; Partner; NeunerPate.

The other panel will address domestic violence during the pandemic and recent natural disasters. Speakers include:

  • TeAndra M. Miller, Managing Attorney and Project  Director, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Practice Group, Legal Aid of North Carolina;
  • Pamela Roychaudhury, Managing Attorney, Legal Aid of Western Missouri;
  • Deborah J. Vagins, President & CEO, National Network to End Domestic Violence; and
