Jose Padilla served as a long-term executive director of California Rural Legal Services (CRLA). Under his leadership, CRLA became a leading legal firm, capable of handling significant, sometimes unpopular, and often highly complex poverty law issues. CRLA's significant casework continued through his time as executive director, with a wide array of active cases continuing up to his retirement in 2023. He was known for his grounded humanity, respect for others and a passion to improve the lives of those persons living in poverty at the edges of our society.
