LSC to Honor Four Colorado Attorneys and Denver-Based Firm for Pro Bono Service

WASHINGTON — In recognition of extraordinary commitment to equal justice, the national Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Board of Directors will present its Pro Bono Service Award to four Coloradans and the firm of Holland & Hart LLP, Monday, July 22, 2013. The awards ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the Colorado Bar Association, 1900 Grant Street in Denver.
Speakers at the event will include LSC Board Chairman John G. Levi, Colorado Bar Association President Terry Ruckriegle, and Colorado Access to Justice Commission Chair Frederick J. Baumann.
Recipients of the Pro Bono Service Award are:
- The Denver-based firm of Holland & Hart, a 400-lawyer firm with 15 offices across the Mountain West and in Washington, D.C. The firm, which was instrumental in the creation of Colorado Legal Services (CLS) in 1999, has handled more than 100 pro bono cases for CLS in the past two years and helps staff CLS pro bono clinics.
- Since 2010, retired Chief Judge Donald E. Campbell of Colorado’s Fourth Judicial District has volunteered two full days each week in the Colorado Springs office of Colorado Legal Services. Judge Campbell meets with seniors and other clients, and advises CLS attorneys on evidentiary issues or unusual legal problems confronting their clients.
- Christina Ebner, a partner in the Longmont firm of Ebner & Gent, is a long-time volunteer with Boulder County Legal Services. For over a decade she has accepted an average of nine cases per year, and in the past five years has donated more than 200 hours representing 44 pro bono clients in cases involving Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and other issues.
- Ronald Stowell, of Stowell, P.C. in Lone Tree, has demonstrated ongoing leadership in support of pro bono legal services by playing a key role in establishing the family law court programs in Pueblo and Fremont counties, handling numerous family law cases pro bono, and mentoring other volunteer attorneys.
- Gina Weitzenkorn, of the Denver firm Mills & Weitzenkorn, is a former legal aid attorney and an early director of what is now called Metropolitan Volunteer Lawyers. Currently, in addition to handling pro bono family law cases, she trains and mentors other volunteer lawyers handling family law cases, and regularly provides technical assistance to the CLS staff.
