LSC Board to Meet July 24-25

Washington, DC - The Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation will meet in Topeka, Kansas, on July 24 and 25. The Board will visit Kansas Legal Services, a statewide program, at its Topeka office, and convene meetings of board committees as well as the full board.
On July 24, Kansas Legal Services will hold a reception at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in honor of the LSC Board and to commemorate LSC's 35th anniversary. Created on July 25, 1974, LSC today funds 137 nonprofit civil legal aid programs with more than 900 offices across the nation to ensure the provision of high-quality legal assistance to low-income individuals and families.
At the reception, lawyers Julia Butler, Kathleen Coode, Shaye Downing, Lynette Perry will be honored for their pro bono work on behalf of clients of Kansas Legal Services. The Kansas Elder Law AdviceLine, which is staffed by volunteers who take calls from senior citizens on legal topics, also will be honored.
The Board meeting will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel, 1717 SW Topeka Boulevard, in Topeka.
LSC is the single largest provider of civil legal assistance for the poor in the nation, operating as a private, nonprofit organization to promote equal access to justice.
