LSC is planning a national, mixed-methods study to examine how intake functions operate across civil legal aid organizations and to identify opportunities to improve access to legal services at the point of entry. Intake is where individuals first seek help, where legal problems are initially identified, and where key decisions are made about eligibility, urgency, and service pathways. These early interactions determine whether people receive assistance, are referred elsewhere, or disengage entirely.
