PHOENIX, AZ—The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) will host the 25th Innovations in Technology Conference (ITC), the largest annual event dedicated to expanding access to justice through tech, on January 13-15. Over 700 people will be in attendance at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, traveling from 47 states, the District of Columbia, two U.S. territories and Canada.

This year, the two-and-a-half-day conference features over 55 sessions and 150 speakers, with 19 sessions available to stream for free onlineA pre-conference AI Summit for Legal Aid will take place on Sunday, January 12. Technologists, legal aid advocates, court personnel, law school professors, pro bono coordinators and other professionals will converge at these events to share educational presentations about a wide range of technology projects.

The first-ever legal technology conference hosted by LSC in October 2000 focused on the Technology Initiative Grant (TIG) program, spanned one day and boasted 32 attendees. Twenty-five years later, the legal tech industry has experienced major growth, and ITC has cultivated a community of professionals dedicated to leveraging technology to increase access to justice and support high-quality legal services for low-income people.

“We are thrilled to mark 25 years of the Innovations in Technology Conference in Phoenix,” said LSC President Ron Flagg. “This event brings top legal tech innovators together with access-to-justice champions from far and wide to share knowledge and spark collaborations that lead to powerful new projects and improved strategies for closing the justice gap.”

ITC’s keynote speaker will be Afua Bruce, author of “The Tech That Comes Next: How Changemakers, Philanthropists, and Technologists Can Build an Equitable World.” Session topics include artificial intelligence (AI), data-driven decision-making, cybersecurity, automation tools, tech for pro bono and community justice workers. Details about the sessions that will stream for free online are available here.

AI will be explored further at a pre-conference event. LSC and Kristen Sonday, co-founder and CEO of the pro bono software company Paladin, are co-hosting the January 12 pre-conference AI Summit for Legal Aid. The Summit will provide education on the transformative potential of AI in legal aid, present real-world case studies that showcase the impacts of AI applications, and provide attendees with hands-on training, including in prompt engineering and building your own GPT. Speakers will include cutting-edge legal tech leaders, legal aid innovators and AI academics.

A live recording of LSC’s “Talk Justice” podcast will take place at ITC on January 14 at 8:30 a.m. MT. The show’s host, Cat Moon, will be joined by Sateesh Nori and Lisa Colpoys, two leading statewide strategists and AI experts in New York and Illinois.
