MEDIA ADVISORY: LSC Board to Meet April 16-17

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC -- The Legal Services Corporation's (LSC) Board of Directors will meet in Tucson, Ariz., on April 16 and 17. The Board's agenda includes a presentation by all three LSC-funded Arizona legal assistance programs entitled, "The Economic Downturn in Arizona: The Impact on Clients and Grantees."

The presentation by Community Legal Services of Phoenix, Southern Arizona Legal Aid of Tucson and DNA-People's Legal Services of Window Rock is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., April 16. It will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, 5151 East Grant Road, in Tucson, before the Board's Promotion and Provision for the Delivery of Legal Services Committee.

Other committees of the Board will meet on April 17, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel. The Board also will consider and act on whether to establish a Search Committee for a new LSC President.

Justice John Pelander of the Arizona Supreme Court will speak at a reception hosted by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education at 5:30 p.m., April 16. It will be held at the Arizona State Bar (Tucson) office located at 270 North Church. At the reception, LSC will present pro bono awards in recognition of volunteer services.

The Legal Services Corporation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was established in 1974 to promote equal access to justice and to ensure high-quality civil legal services are available to low-income Americans. Corporation grants are distributed to 136 nonprofit legal aid programs across the nation.
