Letter of Support from Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators
On February 24, the Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) and the Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA) sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in response to a recent report that OMB is considering recommending to Congress the elimination of funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in fiscal year 2018.
The letter explains the serious consequences that would result from eliminating or reducing LSC's appropriation. Each year, LSC enables thousands of citizens to obtain legal services in crucial matters involving basic human needs such as relief from natural disasters, protection from domestic violence, securing veteran benefits, and maintaining habitable housing. The Conferences urge OMB to promote stable and adequate funding of LSC.
